THE cold snap continued to bite as all-but-two sports fixtures fell foul of the weather for the second weekend-in-a-row.
Only Pershore Rugby Club’s 14-12 home victory over Earlsdon in Midlands Two West (South), and Mickleton Rangers’ 2-1 win over Stour Excelsior in Birdseye Sports Evesham Sunday League Division One beat the freezing conditions.
But for the second week running, the likes of Evesham Rugby Club and Evesham United were without a game.
Training has also proved tricky for clubs, forcing them indoors in order to keep their players’ fitness levels up. Pershore RFC captain Alex Peel said: “It was good to get a game on.
“We hadn’t played for a couple of weeks but playing that game means we will now have a free weekend later in the season, while the other teams in our division will be playing.
“We did some extra work to the pitch during the summer and that has helped.
“We went to train on the pitch before and it was soft underneath the snow, we hadn’t got as bad as other places had.”
