A SEASON of consolidation lies ahead for Pershore Hockey Club’s men’s first-team after an injury-hit opening half to the campaign, according to one of their players.
The Defford Road club, who play in Ener-G West Midlands Division Two, are 10 points behind leaders Kidderminster, but player Scott Attwood says a top-two finish and promotion is not beyond his side.
Pershore have three wins and two draws from their first seven games of the season.
Five regular first-team players left the club last season and Dave Hindle is likely to miss most of the remainder of the term after complications from a broken arm.
Attwood said: “The aim is to challenge for promotion, as it was in pre-season, but we are currently fifth in the table and it looks like a season of consolidation is ahead.
“Two performers stand out for us so far, Richard Drew has scored eight league goals to date, and George Darling, at only 16-years-old, is improving all the time since his introduction to the first-team.
“The highlight of the season, was a resolute defensive performance in a 2-1 victory at Ludlow, when we were reduced to 10 men, due to injury, for over half of the game.
“We have attracted two regular first-team players, Richard Drew and Phil Tisdall, so we have had to promote from within to fill the rest of the gaps.”
Pershore Hockey Club’s Christmas party will be held at Pershore Sports Club on Saturday from 7pm, with tickets priced at £5 per person.
The club train every Monday night at Prince Henry’s High School between 7.30pm and 8.45pm.
