EVESHAM Bengeworth became the pride of Wychavon after being crowned champions of this year’s Parish Games.

Bengeworth took the title by one point in a closely-fought battle with Crowle finishing in second place.

The winners’ prize is the WMCRS Silver Salver, after Bengeworth entered 11 events, while Crowle take the Mitchell and Butler Cup, after they entered 13 events.

Broadway secured the Group 4 Total Security Cup for the award of merit.

Wick took home the small parishes trophy for under 500 people on the electoral roll.

The Richard Preece Memorial Trophy for medium parishes (with 501-999 people on the electoral roll) went to Bretforton.

Events including angling, darts, pool, rounders and skittles took place among the 34 registered parishes of Wychavon throughout this year with 1,050 people competing.

Evesham Bengeworth were the winners in four events - angling, cross-country and the juniors and the senior table tennis.

They finished runners-up in the rounders and skittles to Crowle and Eckington respectively.

This gave them a final total score of 129.5 to Crowle’s tally of 128.5. Drakes Broughton finished third with 117 and their only winning event was in the men’s darts but they also finished runner-up to Evesham Greater Hampton in the pool. Badsey & Aldington were fourth with 115 and Bretforton fifth with 113.5.

The presentation evening for the 2010 Wychavon Parish Games took place at Crowle Parish Hall, hosted by last year’s winners.

This was well attended, with representatives from all the winning parishes across the district.

All cups and trophies are deemed the responsibility of the named winning parish/wards and should be insured until October 1, 2011. They must be returned to the secretary of Wychavon Sport before September 1, 2011.
