Cheltenham Civil Service 3, Bourton Rovers 1.

BOURTON Rovers travelled to in-form Civil Service in Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two and came away with a defeat.

With all four keepers in the Bourton squad unavailable to play, midfielder Keelan Gilbert went in goal.

A further injury blow was dealt to the visitors in the warm-up when defender Gary Clark was forced to miss the game. Matt Winter stepped in for him.

Rovers then found themselves 1-0 down after five minutes when a mis-kicked cross by the home winger flew into the top corner, which left Gilbert with no chance.

This goal woke Rovers up and they could have scored themselves after 15 minutes when Kevin Hunt shot wide after good work from Josh Joynes.

Craig Gilson also headed over from a corner. Bourton restricted Civil Service to any real clear-cut chances but the couple of half-chances they did have, Gilbert dealt with them comfortably.

In the second-half, Bourton were the better team but they couldn’t get past the home defence and were restricted to long-range efforts with Joynes and Hunt shooting wide.

But they got the goal their play deserved with 20 minutes left when a corner was cleared to Johnny Hallum on the edge of the box. He mis-hit his effort but it fell to Winter who turned the defender and slotted the ball into the corner of the net.

Rovers were dominating the game now and went close through Hallum and Phil Colmer, who shot over from 10 yards out with the goal at his mercy.

The visitors were made to pay for it when the home team caught Rovers on the break and scored again to make it 2-1.

In the last minute, Civil Service wrapped the game up when a Gilson mistake let in the home side’s striker for an easy tap-in to leave Bourton pointless in a game they should have won.

Bourton Rovers u11s travelled to Cheltenham side Southside and came away with a deserved win.

Kicking down the slope in the first-half, Rovers dominated the match.

Alex Winter missed a couple of one-on-ones, Toby Hitchman had a shot well saved and Jimmy Robb hit two free-kicks which the keeper did well to hold.

Alex Everett, Toby Crammen and Jack Roberts also went close.

But it wasn’t until five minutes before half-time that Rovers took the lead.

A superb pass by Crammen put Winter through on goal and this time he made no mistake although he mis-kicked the ball into the net.

Bourton goalkeeper Thomas Brown only touched the ball twice in the half.

Southside put up more of a fight in the second-half and put pressure on the visitors’ defence but Ross Tyler, Benny Hitchman, Robb and Sam Head held firm.

Rovers sealed the game with a penalty from Winter, following a handball in the box. He slipped as he took the kick but his effort still beat the keeper.
