THE first session of girls’ Cotswold Floorball League matches provided a number of high scores, with holders St Catharines showing that they will not release their title easily.

They opened against CCS, scoring early on when Hannah Pritchard netted from close-range.

The seniors’ next line created several chances, equalising through Laura Fisher, before Jodie Russell put them ahead.

Saints had several other chances, but it was Harriet Wiltshire, then Fisher again who sealed a 4-1 win.

Saints reversed this result against Stow, Olivia Williams scoring first only to see Stow’s Alana Taylor level things.

Williams, Pritchard and Sydney Scott then netted three in quick succession to complete the win.

Swell had problems getting a complete team together on this occasion, finding the resulting four-a-side game tiring.

They held out well initially, but eventually went down 8-0. Williams scored four goals, Pritchard (2) and Scott before Eleanor Turner put herself on the scoresheet with a few seconds to go.

CCS performed a similar demolition act on Stow.

Fisher scored a hat-trick. Harriet Wiltshire netted twice, then Elisha Aspillaga, Colette Trippick and Jodie Russell netted one apiece.

Russell’s score was goal of the night as she picked the ball up almost from the hands of her own goalkeeper, weaved her way through the opposing team and tucked the ball beyond the Stow keeper’s reach.

CCS lent Swell two players and a boy in goal which made the match quite close.

Colette Trippick scored two of her trademark goals, picking up rebounds close to goal. Jodie Russell score the third in a 3-0 win.

The final match was the local derby between Swell and Stow. Alana Taylor revelled in the extra space of the four-a-side game, netting all five without replay as Swell became increasingly tired.

All the teams will return after Christmas for the play-offs, St Catharines moving direct to the quarter-finals. The other teams will have to go through a qualifying competition.

n The last of the mixed divisions of the Cotswold League was completed.

St James ‘B’ took top seeding from the J Division, defeating Temple Guiting ‘B’ 2-0 with a brace of goals from Charlie Aubrey.

Earlier they had beaten Tredington ‘B’ 5-1. David Musgrave exhibited a lot of skill and energy, netting twice.

Aubrey added another and Elliot Tombs wrapped the game up.

James Gibson-Brandreth scored a consolation goal for Tredington with only a few seconds to go.

Tredington also suffered at the hands of Temple Guiting, going down to goals from Patrick Jones-Brown and Alfie Henson.

All three primary schools lost to CCS. Alfie Willson, Daniel Blakemore and Sam Drew each hit the net without reply against Temple Guiting.

Matt Turner put two in against Tredington, backed up by Willson and Harriet Wiltshire with one apiece.
