Bourton Rovers 2, Soudley 4.

AFTER the previous week’s 7-2 defeat to Moreton Rangers, Bourton Rovers came out of the blocks with all guns blazing but lost this Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two clash.

A superb move involving Phil Colmer, Dan Piff and Jack Galpin set up Josh Joynes with a simple tap-in after only a minute.

In his first game of the season, Joynes made it 2-0 a minute later, when he shot from 18 yards and the ball slid under the keeper and into the net.

Soudley, from the Forest of Dean, started to push Rovers back without creating any chances.

Centre-back Gary Clark limped off after 20 minutes and the home side had to reshape with midfielder Colmer having to drop back in his place.

Soudley scored straight away after a scramble in the box.

After re-grouping, Bourton started playing good football and should have scored again but Keelan Gilbert mis-kicked from three yards out.

Josh Catling and Chris Townsend both missed one-on-ones and Joynes had an effort just go wide.

But the visitors levelled right on half-time when they caught Rovers on the counter-attack.

The second-half action was end-to-end and Rovers keeper Kevin Goodwill pulled off a couple of good saves.

At the other end, Catling was guilty of a couple of misses when he had only the keeper to beat.

With 10 minutes left, Soudley went 3-2 up after a quick break left the Rovers defence exposed.

It was 4-2 a minute later. With Rovers pushed upfield, looking to level matters, the Foresters once again caught Bourton on the break to wrap the game up.

On Saturday, Bourton travel to Cheltenham Civil Service (ko 2pm).
