Evesham United 2, Chippenham Town 2.

EVESHAM United had to settle for a point after throwing away a two-goal lead against high-flying Chippenham Town in the Zamaretto League Premier Division. The draw ended a run of five games without a win in both the league and cup for Paul West’s side. The Robins, who were looking to bounce back from Saturday’s last-kick defeat to Swindon Supermarine, went ahead on 25 minutes.

Fazel Koriya was tripped in the box and Danny Scheppel comfortably put away the penalty.

The lead was doubled in the 62nd minute. But this advantage, however, was cut eight minutes later.

The referee, Adam Matthews, spotted a handball in the Evesham box, resulting in Alan Griffin beating Nathan Vaughan from the spot. The Bluebirds levelled the scores with nine minutes to go.

Greg Tindle got on the end of Scott Lye’s free-kick to score past Vaughan into the bottom corner.

Evesham pressed to the end, Allando Davis twice and Barnfield both went close to snatching a United win.

The draw puts Evesham in 19th place in the table on 14 points after 16 games. Evesham United: Vaughan, Watson, Hyde, Daniel, Luckett, Barnfield, Noubissie, Scheppel, Brown, Lea, Koriya (Davis 65). Subs not used: Costello, Hamilton, Eagles, Robbins. Attendance: 94.
