MASTER Wolfs Tae kwon do Academies Evesham instructor Ben England has just returned from the World Kickboxing Association’s World Championships held in Edinburgh.
A truly international organisation, the WKA holds its annual World Championships around the globe.
Last year’s competition was held in Spain, with the previous year’s staged in Florida.
England, himself, took part in the under 65kg light continuous division and had to compete against opponents from Germany, Canada, Ireland and the USA.
He made it all the way to the semi-final eventually losing to a highly-rated German competitor who not only was the current world champion but also went on to win the competition to claim the title for the third successive year.
England said that he was pleased to have come away with a medal at what is a world class event.
His focus, however, remained on his true passion, tae kwon do.
He explained that kickboxing helped improve his sparing technique and gave him a better understanding of the tools available to use on the tournament square.
It also enabled him to give a broader syllabus to the students at Evesham Tae kwon do and the opportunity to compete at world championship.
England also sees competing at this level necessary for him to ensure he is ready for the ITF Europeans in Cork next year and the ITF World Championships in Canada in two years’ time For more information, call England on 07816 161982.
