Bretforton Ladies 2, Hereford Ladies 1.
PLAYING four up-front, Hereford put Bretforton under pressure for large amounts of this game.
Bretforton’s defence of Sarah Cook, Jane and Daisy Wheeler and Liz Murray-White stood strong and worked hard all match.
They were grateful to have the back-up and support from both Donna Whitehouse and Julie Hall on the wings and to aid Bretforton’s forward runs.
Both teams were awarded several short corners in the half but it was the hosts who took advantage first.
Hereford failed to clear their lines and when Hayley Whitehouse had another shot, the ball caught a deflection from a Hereford player and hit the back of the net.
The second-half saw the Hereford side lose their cool and become unsettled. Sensing this, Bret stepped up the pressure and gained another short corner.
Again, the Hereford keeper saved but only to see captain Lisa Workman make an impressive diving slide to knock the home into an empty Hereford net.
Luck was slightly smiling at Bret as the home side’s keeper Vicky Watkins was adjudged to have brought down a Herford forward and a penalty-flick was awarded to the visitors.
With their striker opting for power over placement, the ball flew well wide of the Bret goal. Hereford regained their composure and pull a goal back late on.
