JUNIOR FOOTBALL.
Droitwich Rhinos u12s 1, Evesham Panthers u12s 2 (AET).
BOTH teams started strong with Evesham having good amounts of possession. Great defending from both teams prevented either side from scoring until five minutes before the end of the first-half. Droitwich piled on the pressure having secured a corner.
A deflection allowed Droitwich to take the lead minutes before the end of the first period.
The Panthers could have been rewarded a penalty in the last minute but the decision was not given.
Going into the second-half, the game it had the same pace as the first-half with some wonderful football.
Harry Jacob our stand-in goalkeeper made two fantastic saves, tipping the ball over the crossbar.
Josh Lima and Harry Smith started to supply some great balls through to Jack Rogers and Bradley Izod who worked both wings well.
Evesham started to dominate, winning a corner. Connor Armento equalised in the last five minutes of the match.
Both sides were now into extra-time and and the slightest mistake could have cost either team.
In the first-half of extra-time, Smith made a superb pass through the middle to allow Sam Beddoes in on goal to slip it past the keeper.
Evesham defended well and kept possession of the ball in the second-half of extra- time. Droitwich squandered a couple of good chances and Evesham hung on.
JUNIOR RUGBY.
Pershore Pirates u15s 3, Evesham u15s 64.
EVESHAM u15s continue to impress this season with a dominant display of committed rugby away to Pershore Pirates.
The visitors started brightly, the ball was moved wide from the kick-off for Oli Salcedo to stretch his legs early with a good run from outside-centre to within five metres of the line.
Evesham won a scrum and Dom Berry picked up from the base of the scrum and crashed over to open the scoring. Almost immediately from the restart, Pershore were on the back foot.
Callum Barnett won the ball at a line-out and fed the ball out through the backs for Salcedo to score his first try.
Pershore then had control for a brief spell through their forwards but were unable to score a try thanks to excellent tackling from Alex Stoddart, Alex Tarplee and Adam Johnson. The home team had to settle for a penalty.
From the re-start, Matt Camp put in a great chase and tackle, winning the ball for Salcedo to score his second try, following more slick handling across the backline.
Another strong run from Salcedo from the restart led to Evesham’s best team move.
Ash Charlton, Joe Beirns, Jake Shotton, Cameron Kyle and Stoddart were all involved with some great link-up play to feed Wilf Watson to score his first of two touchdowns.
Mike Harris then made a superb break from outside-half which nearly led to a further try before the half ended with Evesham 26-3 in front.
Evesham started the second-half as brightly as the first, with the ball won by the visiting forwards from the restart.
Luke Clements drove on and off-loaded well to Salcedo who stormed to the try line breaking several tackles to complete his hat-trick.
James Williamson created the next score with a quality pass to Shotton and on to Watson to outflank the defence with scorching pace.
Watson made another great run shortly after which resulted in an Evesham penalty five metres out. The wall was shipped wide quickly for Clements to score under the posts. Jacob Hann then got on the end of a move created by Berry and Charlton to score under the posts.
Captain Shotton got himself on the scoresheet with a great solo run after catching a clearing kick from Pershore’s brave defence.
The scoring was rounded off when Pershore were rushed into another attempted clearance only to see Charlton cap-off a fine performance at scrum-half with a charge down and follow-up try.
Berry and Harris shared the kicking duties and, between them, converted seven of the 10 tries scored.
