A YOUNG squad of Pershore swimmers finished third at an exciting inter-club friendly gala, organised by Redditch.

Pershore got off to a great start with wins in their individual events by Tazmin Pugh in the 10 years and under 50-metre freestyle (31.80 seconds), 11 years and under 50m butterfly (35.80) and 10 years and under 50m backstroke (37.91). This was followed by 10-year-old Tyler Mclean in the 10 and under 50m breaststroke (42.88) and 12-year-old Harry Sykes in the 50m breaststroke (38.88) and 50m freestyle (30.89).

There were also individual seconnd places from Drew Jones in the 50m freestyle and breaststroke with Joseph Doyle and Mclean in the 50m backstroke.

Amy Weston in the nine year 25m backstroke and Josh Sharratt in the nine years 25m backstroke also claimed runners-up spot.

Ella Spencer and Michael Evans also recorded new personal bests (pbs) in their 11 years and under 50m freestyle with 35.28 and 34.75 respectively.

In the team relay events, Pershore were victorious in the 11 year boys’ 4x1 medley comprising Doyle, Jones, Evans and Adam Palin, swimming a pb with 18.66 for the butterfly leg.

The 11 years and under boys followed this with a second place in the 4x1 freestyle, made up of Evans, Doyle, Jake Spencer (pb 16.61) and Ben Clarke (pb 18.59) and 10 years and under boys 4x1 freestyle with Ben Doyle recording a pb of 22.73. There were third placed finishes for the 11 years and 10 years and under girls in their medley races, the 8x1 boys’ freestyle and nine year boys’ 4x1 medley with Chris Vizard swimming a pb with 22.73.

Hannah Simister swam to pbs in the team event of her nine year and under 4x1 freestyle relay with 21.11, and also in her individual one-length breaststroke with 25.31.

Susie Fowler recorded 19.41 in her leg of the 10 and under girls 4x1 freestyle relay. Katie and Josh Sharratt brother and sister both swam pbs in the 12 year and under freestyle 34.94 and one-length butterfly 21.33 respectively coming in fourth and third. While coming in fourth in the 12 and under butterfly, Palin finished in a pb of 42.66. Lily Weston set a pb in her leg of the 12 years and under 4x1 freestyle with 16.11.

In the girls’ 10 year and under medley, Jasmin Taite swam a first backstroke leg with a pb of 22.39 whilst further pbs in the same event came from Louise Hird (breaststroke 29.19) and the final freestyle leg by Amy Weston with 18.97.

Pershore finished in an impressive third place with 191 points behind Stourbridge and Redditch clubs respectively.
