PERSHORE TOWN deservedly picked up three points in a game that went right down to the wire with Brimscombe and Thrupp.
The game was dominated by Danny Janes' side in the first half. Aidan Clark grabbed the opener to put his side in the drivers seat.
The lead was quickly added to by Harlie Price. Price's goal saw The Plums cruising into half time 2-0 to the good.
Early in the second Clark would come again, grabbing Pershore's third. The game appeared all wrapped up, with the win feeling inevitable for Janes' side.
Brimscombe and Thrupp were revitalised by the third goal and looked to mount an unlikely comeback.
They scored almost instantly after conceding the third. An initial shot was blocked by the Pershore defence, which fortunately fell to their striker who finished home from close range.
Brimscombe worried the Pershore players as they grabbed their second and brought the difference back to just a single goal.
Chances came for both sides in the latter stages of the game, but neither side were able to capitalise - seeing Pershore holding out for an important three points.
"A game of two halves in terms of control and quality," said Janes. "First half I thought we were good, dominated the game and looked dangerous going forwards, it was just a matter of time until we scored.
"Two good goals get us in at half-time in a great position. Second half we started perfectly by grabbing the third and it should be game over. We are unlucky with their first goal but from there we couldn’t get hold of the game.
"The second half was littered with poor decisions and a lack of game intelligence. Players turning the ball over constantly, not recognising they needed to protect the ball and allow us to get up the pitch combined with poor quality on passes.
"That mixture of mistakes allowed Brimscombe to come at us and have a real go. We did have our own chances to kill the game, but the finishing from a variety of players was just not good enough."
