Evesham United lost 2-0 to Malvern Town, causing the third loss for the side in a row.

The game saw goals from Levi Francis and Sam Clark, however due to other results, Evesham has held onto fourth place in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South.

Speaking after the game, Evesham United manager Mike Ford said: "We contrived to give the opposition two goals.

"At half time we felt that the game was fairly even. I think having conceded four horrific goals on Saturday it was a nice place to be in the dressing room at half time with a 0-0.

“We just said to them concentrate because to be fair to [Malvern] I thought they were a decent team. We need to concentrate, don’t switch off, make good decisions.

“And then we go out for the second half and within 15 minutes were 2-0 down because we just give them two goals. That, at the moment, is an indication of how hard you have to work to win a game of football."

The game seems to have a left a sour taste for Evesham. "Malvern were playing tunes and singing songs. It’s three points, I’m not sure all that meant they could actually celebrate like they did. I don’t need to do my team talk when we go back to them," said Ford.

The game saw Malvern grab two goals, before sitting in and defending deep in order to see out the remainder of the game.

"We managed to gift them the three points," said Ford. "I said to the lads, they've not come here and won and taken three points from us, we have handed them the three points because of the mistakes that we've made.

"We made those mistakes today, Saturday and away at Thatcham and that's why you lose three games.

“We made mistakes, gave the ball away twice in the middle of the pitch and they capitalised, fair play. But I don’t think I would suggest they won the game, we gave them the game and they had to defend really well at the end which they did."

The match was the third game on the bounce in which Evesham failed to score, a trend the side will be hoping to overturn in their next fixture against Melksham Town.

"We just need to take our mistakes out of the game and capitalise on the opportunities we create," said Ford. "It's a recipe for disaster if you are making mistakes at one end and not taking your chances at the other, you're not going to win many games of football which we are not doing right now."
