Seven Bourton Roadrunners took on the Pride Run 10k over the past weekend.

On Saturday (September 21) a cohort from the club travelled to Victoria Park in the east end of London for the annual event.

The race saw over 900 participants get their running shoes on under the sun.

The Roadrunners were a part of a team of more than 30 collecting funds for Micro Rainbow, a charity providing assistance to LGBT refugees through housing and social inclusion initiatives.

Barry O'Leary, who was part of the cohort, is a voluntary director of the organisation.

Not only did the team raise funds for the cause, but were also awarded the non-running club team prize, which was calculated on the performances of their top three finishers, with Peter Carrick (40:50) and Eva Shoemark (42:27) making up the trio alongside O'Leary (49:30).

Other finishing Roadrunners were Lisa Braid (49:34), Liz Hulcup (1:00:06), Allie Quinn (1:07:48), and Louise Hamilton-Smith (1:07:50).

The next day John Gibson was the club's only representative amongst other 15,000 runners at the Vitality London 10K, having run in each of the race's 17 years.

Gibson completed the course, which began on the Mall and took in several of the city's historic landmarks, in 55 minutes and 36 seconds.

Gilly and Steve Howell completed the 10-mile Chedworth Roman Trail, taking place in the Cotswold countryside.

Running together, their times were 44:47 for Steve, and 44:49 for Gilly, who took the top spot in the women’s vet-60 category.

In addition, club members took on a range of different parkrun events across the country on Saturday morning, with a course PB of 28:59 for Gill Carrick at Wolford Wood, who also topped the v-65 women's category.

Other category toppers included Liz Hulcup with 30:22 at Mile End in East London (VW70/1), Susan Hunt with 26:10 (VW55/1) and Linda Edwards with 29:16 (VW60/1), both of which were running in Stonehouse.

The Roadrunners are now looking ahead to hosting the Bourton Half Marathon this weekend, which is the final event of their three-race series for this year.

The race forms part of the Gloucestershire AAA Road Race series and incorporates the County Half Marathon Championship.
