Danny Janes has laid down the gauntlet for his players after Pershore Town failed to secure victory in their first two games of the season.

The Plums are still seeking their first competitive win after Janes' return, having been defeated 2-0 away from home by Westfields, before securing their first point of the season in a 1-1 draw against Sporting Club Inkberrow at Recruit 12 Community Stadium on Saturday (August 10).

The latter clash saw former Pershore player Umit Eminoglu leading the Eagles in the Hellenic League Premier Division clash.

The Eagles took the lead mid-way through the first half, but an Aidan Clark goal just before the interval levelled things up.

The second half did not fare better for either side, with neither managing to gain the upper hand as the teams split the points.

Following the deadlock, Janes said: "I am disappointed with the result.

"Inkberrow came with a plan to frustrate us, sit in a low block and deny space in behind.

"We have to praise how well they executed that plan, I thought their players and their back four were excellent."

He added: "We needed to adjust our play slightly to further threaten the compactness of Inkberrow.

"I felt first half the decision making was not consistent around when to play forwards."

Janes said that the Plums' play-making improved in the second half, but he rued that it did not translate into more of a threat.

Challenging his foot soldiers, Janes said: "I expect a lot more from the forward players.

"We have so much quality at our disposal but they aren’t producing those moments of quality they are capable of."

Despite an unideal start, Janes remains optimistic, taking the challenges in stride.

He said: "We need to improve and do more, it is something I am really enjoying in terms of reflecting and assessing our game.

"We are used to winning games here at Pershore Town, so I will embrace this spell where we aren’t quite doing enough to win games.

"The players are desperate to reach the levels they are capable of.

"Myself and the management team will do everything we can to get them to those levels."
