It is safe to say Worcestershire's Ethan Brookes is relishing his debut T20 senior campaign.

Having been handed his first chance to play at senior level by the Rapids in the Vitality Blast, Brookes, who joined the Pears from Warwickshire this year, grabbed the opportunity with both hands by becoming the leading run-scorer after five games, with 119 to his name.

At only 23, Brookes also has the second-highest strike rate in his team, with 158.66, only sitting behind teammate Gareth Roderick.

During the recent clash with Leicestershire Foxes away at Uptonsteel, Brookes captured the spotlight with his stellar performance, hitting 37 off just 16 balls before his dismissal.

Reflecting on his debut, Brookes said: "I feel I’ve been ready to play T20 cricket for a while.

"That didn’t happen at Warwickshire and I was so pleased Worcestershire gave me a chance from the very first game.

"I’m very thankful to them for showing a bit of faith in me and the main thing for me is that I’ve been striking it a decent amount."

Having scored three centuries during his stint in Australia playing for Prahran, Brookes has been firing since his return to Visit Worcestershire New Road in mid Match.

He said: "It was a bit strange, I came back with loads of confidence, my game was in a really good place, but because of the weather, we didn’t play that much cricket early doors in the seconds.

"But the seconds then had a good run out of T20 games and I feel I’m back to where I was when leaving Australia."

While the Rapids' next clash will be with Notts Outlaws at home on Friday (June 14), the Vitality Blast is not all Brookes wants to do with his summer.

He said: "I need to score a few runs in the second team to put my name in the hat but hopefully I can make my Championship debut this year."
