EVESHAM United and Westbury United played out a dour 0-0 draw on Tuesday night, in a game that saw the visitors reduced to 10 men in the closing stages.
Westbury's Charlie Walton was sent off for a nasty challenge 12 minutes from time, but Evesham were unable to make it count and they had to settle for a point.
After Saturday's 1-1 draw at Exmouth Town, Evesham have begun the 2023/24 Southern League Division One South campaign with two draws.
A dull first half led to no goals with little to no chances that stood out apart from a Charlie Wise header which was collected comfortably by Jonathon Hill.
A livelier second half led to more chances with Amer Awadh blazing his shot over the bar and Levi Steele’s header saved by the keeper.
Westbury had chances of their own as Walton watched his 35-yard effort loop onto the top of the net.
Then came the only real talking point in the match as United’s captain Walton was shown a red card for a bad challenge, which was greeted by plenty of abuse from the Evesham fans as he walked off for an early bath.
Unfortunately for the hosts, the red card didn’t change much at all in terms of the flow of the game apart from a few late chances with Wise’s header aimed straight at the keeper in a similar fashion to his chance in the first-half.
The better moments on the night fell Evesham's way but the back of the net was not found by either team and in the end, a draw was a fair result in a game where neither side did enough to warrant victory.
Evesham are back in action on Saturday when they begin their FA Cup adventure with a home tie against lower-level oppisition in Tuffley Rovers of the Hellenic League Premier (Step 5).
