CAPTAIN Charlie Wise admits his side "were not good enough" in the first-half of their 3-0 play-off semi-final defeat to Hamworthy United on Wednesday evening.
The Hammers were 2-0 up after 35 minutes thanks to goals from William Fletcher and Simon Griffin, capping off a dominant half that Evesham struggled to have any influence on.
They had chances to get back into the game after the restart, but ultimately, they had given themselves too much to do and a Tony Rolls penalty in the 58th minute ended any chance of a comeback.
"First 45 minutes we were not good enough, we weren't brave enough, we didn't stick to what we do well, we played within ourselves and maybe if we had have started the game like we did the first-half it could have been a different game and that's the disappointing thing," said Wise.
"We had a very good chance at 2-0 to make it 2-1 and they go up the other end and get a penalty to make it 3-0.
"But you cannot keep giving yourself a mountain to climb on a consistent basis and we have done it twice in a row and this time Hamworthy were good enough to hold onto that lead and add to it.
"But credit to Hamworthy, they played really well in that first 45 minutes and we cannot really take the result away from them."
