MIKE Ford told his side to "go and make a difference" in the second-half and that is exactly what 10-man Evesham United did as they overturned a 2-0 half-time deficit to beat league champions AFC Totton 3-2 and clinch a play-off spot.
Two penalties from Kyle Belmonte and a late winner from Charles Wise saw The Robins come from 2-0 down at the break to secure a dramatic final day win, which secures Evesham a Southern League Division One South play-off semi-final against Hamworthy United.
"We said to them at half-time that we cannot give up, we didn't want to be the plucky losers. We have done brilliantly well this season and this week in particular, so we did not want to go out like that," said Ford.
"We just said, go and make a difference; win a header, win a tackle, get into them, make it really uncomfortable and we did that in the second-half.
"We kept two up front and three in midfield and we knew those two up top would give us something and they did.
"What a day, what a rollercoaster of a ride this season and the game today (Saturday) has been but we are still in it and we have another game on Wednesday so we go again."
Tommy Wright and Marcus Day had put Totton 2-0 up inside the opening 20 minutes and to make matters worse, Evesham's Alfie Dunn saw red for a late lunge right on the stroke of half-time.
The odds were stacked against Evesham but Ford got the response he was after at half-time and praised his side's courage in what was an incredible turnaround.
"It was a red card. Alfie has miss-controlled it, overstretched and has gone over the ball, so it was the correct decision," added Ford.
"Alfie is a good kid and not a malicious player but that is the second time he has been sent off this season for a tackle like that.
"So we had to show massive courage in the second-half because if you do not have that belief and courage, we could have lost 3 or 4 and that would have been such a disappointing way to end the season.
"But what a brilliant day it turned out to be for this football club and on we go."
