Evesham Rugby Club moved up to eighth in the Midlands 2 West (South) table with a 20-10 home victory over Spartans.
In a well-contested game, with both sides in need of a win, it was Evesham's work in defence, typified by man-of-the-match Wilf Watson, that made the difference.
A brace of tries for Jordy Izod gave Evesham a 10-5 lead at the break.
Captain Rich Clarke scored early in the second-half to stretch the lead, before a breakaway try for Spartans set-up a tense finale. Mike Diston sealed the win and a bonus point, with the fourth try in the final minute. No conversions were made by either side.
Evesham travel to fourth placed Barkers Butts on Saturday (Kick-off 2.15pm).
