WORLD champion Helen Russell has added the British quadrathlon title to her collection. Two weeks after her victory at the sprint in Germany, the Evesham athlete was again on top of the podium in Bude, Cornwall, to defend her championship crown.
Competitors tackled a 800-metre sea swim, 30km bike section, 10km kayak and 10km off-road run.
Russell was two minutes ahead after a testing swim and extended the lead to eight minutes on the bike section.
Although the kayaking is her weakest discipline, she has improved this year and held onto her lead.
With an 11-minute advantage going into the run, she relaxed to finish first woman overall in three hours seven minutes 33 seconds.
Russell took the British Quadrathlon Trophy Series title for the second year running thanks to other wins at Brigg, Dearne Valley and Box End.
The Rivers Evesham Gifted and Talented Scheme athlete said: “This was a really tough course with every discipline having its own challenges.
"I am delighted to defend my two British quadrathlon titles and will now enjoy a well-deserved rest.”
