Pershore Town manager Danny Janes shunned his team for their "horrific" first-half performance despite a victory over Brimscombe & Thrupp.

Janes, was left frustrated despite securing three points with a comfortable 3-0 win.

The Plums were hoping to replicate their impressive performance in a 1-0 defeat to Corsham Town the previous week.

However, Janes was forced to make several changes to the line-up due to injuries and suspensions.

Wil Beach and Aidan Clark returned to the starting line-up, while Cameron Monteith and Bailey Fuller were unavailable for selection.

Despite three second-half goals from Clark, Harlie Price, and James Baldwin, Janes was unhappy with his side's performance in the first 45.

He said: "Horrific first half that lacked energy, quality and game understanding.

"To go from the performance level at Corsham to that is so disappointing.

"You train hard twice in the week, work on the details you want to see and then you produce a performance like that, any manager will tell you it's one of the most frustrating parts of the job."

He added: "The decision making and quality in those 45 minutes were miles off, complete waste of a half.

"We should have scored at least three goals, Jude then makes a great save just before half-time to keep us level, that was a massive moment for us."

However, Janes acknowledged the improvement following the interval.

He said: "Second half we were better, much better.

"We took more care, we looked threatening and the overall quality improved.

"Even when we went down to 10, we were still comfortable, there were some things I didn't like out of possession but securing that first clean sheet was crucial."

The Plums responded to Janes' criticism with a 7-0 victory over Lydney Town at the Recruit 12 Community Stadium on Tuesday (September 17), delivering a dominant, six-goal second-half performance.
