I have spotted the first sign of spring - roadworks blossoming everywhere.
Come the New Year, under-spent council highways departments rush to spend as much money as possible by the end of March for fear they won’t get their greedy mitts on even more money next year.
If the works were needed, they should be spread through the whole financial year to minimise the inconvenience to road-users.
If they are not, they should not be carried out at all and the money should be returned to local taxpayers.
Instead, we get months of indolence and delay followed by the ritual early-Spring splurge.
I note Worcestershire County Council - imposing an extortionate five per cent tax increase this year - is boasting about a new website.
No doubt that will console us as we sit in front of traffic lights wherever we turn and wonder what we get for all the money it takes from us.
