EVESHAM RFC are hoping to inspire the next generation of female rugby players by inviting local girls to come down and take part in contact training sessions.
Girls rugby at Evesham has taken off in recent times, moving on from just a tag-rugby team, to now be in a position to have a full-contact side as well.
And now, every Tuesday night, coach Tyrell Davenhill will take sessions for girls aged 11-18 that will involve a mixture of fitness and stamina, alongside match-style practice.
Davenhill has been with Evesham Girls rugby team for over three years and has been able to open doors for girls who are wanting to progress their futures in the game.
One of those players is Nicki Davenhill, who was recently scouted for England’s’ centre of excellence, which is opening up her pathway with the future of rugby.
In July, Nicki did trials at Worcester Warriors for England’s centre of excellence and it was a success in offering her a position for a pathway to England.
She now trains several times a week for the Centre of Excellence showing her determination and passion for the sport, but it also shows what those at Evesham are trying to do.
The team has evolved from something small to something eye-opening and career-starting.
Nicki didn’t expect to come this far as she started off with the small team having fun, making friends and developing her talent. But now she is an inspiration to everybody involved with the sport.
If you would like to get involved, then head down to Evesham Rugby Club every Tuesday Night at 6:30 to get your taste for the sport and maybe start your journey too.
