TWO calves from Judy Gardner’s herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle at Manor Farm, Eckington, swept the board at the South of England Aberdeen Angus Calf Show.
Mrs Gardner only took one bull calf and a heifer calf to the showin Bristol and both started the successful day by winning their individual classes.
The bull calf, born in January, went on to take the overall breed championship and the heifer calf, born in April, took the reserve champion prize. The calves then performed well in the pairs class, taking first place.
Mrs Gardner, who has been running Manor Farm since 2005, said: “We were thrilled to have won at Bristol, competing against the best breeders in the South of England.
“A huge amount of hard work has gone into the farm since I started five years ago. Breeding top quality pedigree animals is a long-term affair and I am delighted that all the effort that has gone into the business is slowly beginning to reap rewards.”
Mrs Gardner said she was extremely proud of her team including stockman Jimmy Irving. She said: “These awards show that I am a serious farmer and committed to building a top quality herd of Aberdeen Angus cattle.”
