DARK nights and economic uncertainty are a recipe for an increase in rural crime, according to rural watchdog, the CLA.
West Midlands director Caroline Bedell said: “Each year, we seem to experience an increase in crime in the countryside after the clocks go back. This year, we could see a bigger increase than usual.”
Isolated houses and buildings and fewer witnesses help add up to an attractive target for thieves.
“Let’s not wait for it to happen. Don’t just leave it to a barking farm dog,” she said. “Taking simple steps like installing security lights and not leaving tools around or keys in vehicles will make property less of a target.”
