St Peter’s Church Bells: An appeal for the St Peter’s Bells restoration fund has been launched. The first meeting has been held and was well attended with many useful ideas put forward. A recent survey has indicated that it will be necessary to raise over £9000 to pay for the works required. In 2012 the bells will have been rung for exactly three centuries. No major work has been undertaken for 70 years. A programme of events is being prepared. Mr Rob McNeill-Wilson will be pleased to answer any queries and would welcome any offers of help (01386 858000).

Wednesday Club: The two November meetings were again well attended with more new members. Firstly, Muriel Pilkington discussed the gunpowder plot with the genuine stories behind the treason and plot. Secondly, Anne Chambers, the owner of Kiftsgate, showed slides on ‘Kiftsgate Through the Year’. The many interesting aspects of the well-known garden were explained and some very good pictures of the gardens throughout the four seasons were very much appreciated.

The annual Christmas lunch will be held on December 8 at Dumbleton Hall and the New Year will commence on January 26 with a talk by Mr Ray Leigh of the Gordon Russell Museum.

Senior Citizens Party: The Christmas party, organised by the Willersey WI, will be held at the village hall on December 4 when about one hundred parishioners are expected to attend.

Methodist Church: The re-furbishment programme is now under way. On February 13 the church and hall will be open to show the results of the work so far. It will be of special interest that much of the church furniture is the work of the Gordon Russell factory in Broadway. Any enquiries may be made to David Ingles on 01386 853400.

Carols for All: The annual carol service will be held in the village hall on December 19 at 3pm. A collection will be made for Action for Children.

Munch Brunch: The next lunch will be served on Wednesday, January 19. There will be no December lunch because of the work being carried out to the kitchen. Enquiries to Elizabeth Ingles on 01386 853400.

Village Hall Soup Kitchen: As the result of the soup kitchen event on November 6, the sum of £320 was raised for village hall funds. The committee wishes to thank all those who made soups and puddings and who helped on the day.

Christmas Eve Carol Singing: The annual carol singing at the Jubilee Tree on Christmas Eve will commence at 6.30pm for about an hour during which the Avonbank Band led by Nick Smith will play. Mince pies and mulled wine will be served (any contributions would be welcome and will be received by Gillian Beale and Penny Burch).

Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust: The sum of £333 has been sent to the trust as a result of the sponsored ride and stride held in September. Some of this will be returned to St Peter’s Church.

Mobile Library: The next visit will be on Thursday, December 16 at Collin Close from 10.40 to 11.05am and at The Bell Inn Green from 11.10 to 13.30hrs.
