A SUPERMARKET in Bridge Street, Evesham, was raided 40 years ago.
The Journal reported how “goods worth £60 were snatched from shelves while the shop’s staff stood by”.
However, the report went on to say that not only was the “raider” invited to the International Store, but she was presented with a bouquet of flowers as well.
Mrs Sheila Clarkson, of Gorse Hill, Ashton-under- Hill, was just collecting the prize she had won in a national competition – the chance to have five minutes in the store without having to pay for anything she picked up.
Altogether, Mrs Clarkson filled five large shopping trolleys with goods of all kinds worth £59.34.
Mrs Clarkson, who says she does competitions “out of boredom, when my husband is at work,” has already won a watch, a travelling clock, and some cash in other competitions, but this was her first major win.
“I had to spot the differences in two pictures, and then complete a rhyme,”
she said.
When her five minutes were up, Mrs Clarkson said: “I wouldn’t like to have to do this every weekend.
“You don’t really see what you are buying, everything goes past your eyes so fast.”
