PERSHORE people have been invited to attend a meeting to keep up the fight for the library to stay in the town centre.
The meeting, organised jointly by the county council and the town council, takes place at the Town Hall on Wednesday, November 23, from 7pm.
It will feature a presentation to bring visitors up to speed with the current situation, together with the latest options that are being considered.
Town clerk Ann Dobbins said: “The town council has worked hard to find a solution in line with the wishes of residents – namely that the library remain in the town centre – and this meeting will not only give people the opportunity to hear what has been discussed, but also to give their opinions on the options put forward.”
Both residents and town councillors have already expressed deep concern over plans to move the library out of the town centre, fearing it could lead to fewer visitors to the town centre, which in turn could have a knock-on effect for the High Street and its independent traders.
Kathy Kirk, the county council’s strategic libraries and learning manager, said: “We recognise the importance of the library to the area, and as with the rest of the county, are committed to making the savings we need in a way that ensures people continue to have access to a thriving library service.
“The meeting is an opportunity to hear more about the work we have been doing and to let us know what you think about the ideas both authorities have come up with.”
