A BRAVE mum from Evesham who turned the tables on the stigma of cancer with a sponsored head shave in August has raised more than £1,300.
Theatre manager Cathy Donnahey, who earlier this year underwent surgery to remove breast cancer followed by a course of chemotherapy, said she didn’t want people to be shocked when they saw her with no hair.
She organised the event, at the Oddfellows Arms, not just to soften the blow of the chemotherapy but also to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care and the Midlands Air Ambulance at the same time, turning something negative into something positive.
Cathy said: “I’m over the moon with the amount of money we raised, £1,325.70. I was alright with the idea up until the night of the event and then I thought to myself ‘what have I done’ because I did not realise how many people would turn up.”
Evesham Rugby Club player Kerren Lippetts has remained supportive of Cathy, together with her family, and also had his head shaved that day.
Cathy said: “Kerren was brilliant. I couldn’t have done it without him.
“I have finished my chemotherapy now. I’m on the road to recovery and I’m looking forward to returning to normality.”
