TWO teams of students from Pershore High School who just love an argument have won through to the next round of two prestigious debating competitions.
Giles Grainger and Charlotte Ridgewell are through to the final of the Taylor Trophy Debating Competition, while speaker Jared White, questioner Gareth Roberts and chairman Michael Wheatley won the Worcester round of the English Speaking Union Public Speaking Competition.
Jared spoke on the topic The Press Has Power Without Responsibility and won the best speaker prize while Michael won best chairman. They beat off Royal Grammar School Worcester, The Bromsgrove School and St Mary’s Convent to progress to the next stage.
Pershore High headteacher Clive Corbett said: “These are wonderful achievements by young people who are doing everything possible to keep up the school’s proud traditions in debating and public speaking.”
