PEOPLE in Pershore braved freezing weather to attend the official opening of the town’s new bandstand in Abbey Park on Sunday.
The opening ceremony was performed by the Mayor of Pershore, Councillor Chris Parsons, and the youth mayor James Dodson. The bandstand is the culmination of many months of hard work and fund-raising by last year’s Pershore Youth Council.
Music was provided by the Pershore High School Orchestra, followed by Ellys Lloyd Jones and the School Jazz Orchestra.
The ceremony ended with a performance by Pershore Brass, whose music included the playing of a specially-written fanfare.
Other guests included the chairman of Wychavon District Council Linda Robinson, together with representatives of various organisations which helped to make the bandstand possible.
Coun Parsons said: “This is another wonderful asset for Pershore which I am sure will be well used through the summer months. Any group or organisation who may be interested in using the bandstand should contact the town hall on 01386 561561.”
There are plans afoot for concerts in the bandstand on Sunday afternoons.
