COUNCILLORS have backed a cash injection of £45,000 in a bid to preserve community transport schemes. Wychavon District Council agreed on Tuesday to approve three £5,000 grants over the next three years for each of the volunteer centres in Evesham, Pershore and Droitwich. The action has been taken in response to a Government decision which could spell the end of some services in Wychavon. The schemes currently organise volunteer drivers and taxis to take elderly and disabled people on essential journeys such as trips to hospital appointments. Councillor Tom MacDonald said: “The changes being made to concessionary transport are out of our hands, but this is something we can do to ensure the most vulnerable people in some of the most remote parts of the district can still reach the vital services they need.”“
