DESPITE terrible weather, 11 volunteers reported at Pershore Drill Hall 75 years ago to join the 8th Battalion The Worcestershire Regiment Territorial Army.
The Journal of 1935 reported: “Lieutenant Colonel E M Buck, the Commanding Officer, was present, with the Adjutant, Captain F S Ramsay, and thanked the men for turning out that night. They were all passed by the Medical officer, Major K S Roden, and were afterwards attested and sworn in.
“Colonel Buck said it was his intention to apply for the reopening of the Drill Hall and everything would be done to provide them with a good recreation room. The battalion would go to Weymouth for training in August and he hoped that the members in Pershore would be considerably increased by that time.
“Pershore Drill Hall was one of the best in the county and the town had provided a full company of volunteers before the war. They were close to Tyddesley Wood Rifle Range and he hoped the Pershore Detachment would keep up its old reputation in this respect.”
