VETERANS, members of the armed forces, cadets and supporters made their way through the streets of Bengeworth, Evesham, at the weekend in honour of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
The Royal British Legion parade on Sunday was to remember those young men and women from Bengeworth who laid down their lives.
RBL county chairman Jeff King said: “This is a historical event because Bengeworth used to be a village completely separate from Evesham and we felt that sometimes their soldiers didn’t get their due.
“We organised another parade in their honour and thanks must go to Evesham Town Council for providing a grant which enables us to do this.
“Local people came out of their houses to welcome us on our way.”
RBL standard bearer Emma Kearsey has led the Women’s Section of the parade for the past 18 years but stepped down from the role on Saturday to become the new county parade marshall. She said she felt it was time for a change.
She said: “I handed over the county standard on Saturday and became the county parade marshall instead, a role I performed at the Bengeworth parade on Sunday.”
Jeff King added said: “Emma will be missed. She has been so prominent in the past and has never missed the Bengeworth parade since she started 18 years ago.”
