The annual fat stock show and sale, organised by Messrs E G Righton and Son, was held at the Smithfield Market, Evesham, 75.

The Journal of 1935 reported: “There was a good entry in nearly all departments of the show, and the quality of stock in all classes was very good indeed. Prices, considering general conditions, were fairly satisfactory.

There was a large attendance of farmers, dealers and buyers from all parts of the district, and considerable interest was taken in the proceedings.

“The most successful exhibitor was Mr G F Bomford, who carried off three of the principal prizes – the President’s Prize (given by Mr W B Scott) for the best beasts bred, fed and reared by the exhibitor; Mr E G Righton’s Presentation Cup, for the best three fat beasts; and the Challenge Cup given by the proprietors of the Evesham Journal and Four Shires Advertiser for the best pair of fat heifers. The Challenge Cup given by Viscount Monsell of Evesham for the best butcher’s beasts, was won by Mr T P Staight.

At the conclusion of the show and sale the prizes were distributed in the sale room by Mr Haines Rimell, in the unavoidable absence of the President (Mr W B Scott).

Mr Rimell said he was glad the sale had been so satisfactory. In proposing a vote of thanks to the donors of prizes, he said it was very kind of those gentlemen to give them, and since those cups had been given for competition the quality of the cattle had improved every year.

Mr G F Bomford (who was heartily applauded on being presented with his prizes) said he was very glad to have won the cups, and he said he hoped to win two of them again.

“I shall have one more try, and then leave it to someone else,” he added amid laughter.
