A DRUNKEN row had an “unexpected result” when a man fractured his friend’s cheekbone with a single punch.

Aaron Gurney, aged 23, of Alder Grove, Evesham, admitted at Worcester Magistrates Court punching Jack Millar. Because of the injury, Mr Millar was unable to attend a £500 holiday.

Matt Dodson, prosecuting, said that on Saturday, August 28, Mr Millar had been drinking in Evesham town centre with his brother, Gurney and two friends.

But the pair fell out and Gurney became verbally aggressive, leading to Gurney punching Mr Millar.

As a result, he fell to the floor and suffered two fractures to his cheek bone. Gurney later told police he was in a bad mood and lost his temper with Mr Millar.

Sarah Brady, defending, said the incident was out of character. She said: “It’s a very unfortunate incident, he fully accepts that. He struck a single blow which had a most unexpected result.”

Gurney was given a community order, with a six-month curfew between 7pm-7am. He must also pay compensation of £776.08 to cover the cost of the holiday and the injury caused.
