A LITTLE Beckford couple who were conned by a cruel distraction burglar have spoken of their delight at receiving money from the West Mercia Police Community Fund.
A man tricked his way into the home of pensioners Jim and Dorly Whiting on October 11. The couple later noticed a wallet containing £90 in cash had been stolen.
Last week, officers presented the pensioners with £100 from the fund which gives cash to needy and vulnerable victims of crime who have had money or property stolen.
Mrs Whiting said: “The thoughtfulness of the police in helping us in this way is very much appreciated. We really didn’t expect the money and it is a lovely thought.”
Police are still trying to trace the offender, who is white, aged about 50, of a tall and broad build and was dressed in dark blue clothes.
Anyone who believes that they saw anything suspicious in Little Beckford between 12.45pm and 1pm on October 11 should call police on 03003 333000, quoting 301S/111011, or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
