A DRINK-driver caught at nearly three times the limit was found lying in a ditch unconscious by paramedics after falling from his motorbike.
Matthew Gopsill, aged 21, of Leicester Grove, Evesham, was found with 226mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood – the legal limit is 80mg – after drinking with a friend the night before.
Matt Dodson, prosecuting, said Gopsill had been night fishing with a friend on Friday, September 24.
He said: “They consumed 38 cans of lager between them. In the morning, Mr Gopsill went home then went to a work commitment.
“After this, he went out and consumed a pint of lager at about midday. On his way home, he lost control of his vehicle and left the road.
“Paramedics located him in a ditch and he was taken to Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, where the drink-drive procedures were carried out.”
Gopsill pleaded guilty to drink-driving on Knowle Hill in Evesham when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court.
He said: “I deeply regret what I have done. I didn’t realise I would be over the limit the morning after.”
Gopsill was given a 12-month community order to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and banned from driving for 24 months.
