CHILDREN in Salford Priors donned caps and gowns for a special ceremony celebrating their after-hours activities.
Pupils who attend the village’s primary school were among 150 young people who picked up their awards at the University of Warwick as part of Warwickshire County Council’s involvement with the Children’s University.
The Children’s University has been offering South Warwickshire youngsters aged from seven to 13 a wide range of projects to take part in after school.
These include modules in Photoshop, Spanish, ‘crazy chemistry’ and techno vehicle building, and Kids’ College offers similar opportunities for children aged between five and seven.
The scheme, organised by the county’s extended services team, aims to maximise the use of schools after-hours through various partnerships.
Ana Clark, of Salford Priors C of E Primary School, said: “I did netball and imagineering – where you get a kit and instructions and have to make the kit up. We’ve made a compass and an aeroplane already. I’ve enjoyed my time doing these activities.”
Warwickshire County Councillor Heather Timms, portfolio holder for children, young people and families, said: “Young people are at the heart of the county council’s aspirations for the future of Warwickshire and we will continue to look at ways of making sure they have opportunities to broaden their ambitions and talents. It has been a wonderful night to see so many young people receive deserved recognition for developing themselves out of school hours.”
