PUPILS at Prince Henry’s High School in Evesham have organised a Battle of the Bands competition in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The event, next Friday, November 26, features six local bands all competing for the top spot. These are Buffalo Bill and the Pepper Land Meanies, the brother and sister duo Claire and Paul Retallic, the four-piece 48 Hours, guitarist and singer Bel Blackmore, fellow guitarist and singer Ella Heeks and Blank Canvas.

Last year’s competition was won by Reborn Hero, who will be guest performers on the night.

The organiser of the event, pupil Megan Baynes, said: “We have done this competition for the past three years. However, I feel that this year the talent is exceptional.

“In the past we have had two or so really strong bands, and it’s been easy to tell who will win. But this year I think it’s going to be the closest it’s ever been – the talent is really, really high.

“Everyone has been putting a lot of effort into making it a really great show. What I really love about this year is that some of the talent is really different, and we cover a whole range of genres, it’s not just a group of high school rock bands.

“What I really hope this event will do is show people that teenagers today really aren’t just yobs who hang about on street corners. We want to give something back to the community and help promote a fantastic charity.”

Putting on the event has been described as a huge team effort by pupils at the school, who are aiming to raise £1,000 to help people with cystic fibrosis, a potentially fatal condition that clogs up the lungs and digestive system.

Tickets cost £4.50 and are available by calling the school on 01386 765588, or on the door on the night.
