I have not complained to a newspaper before but I feel disgusted to hear and see the disgusting scenes on TV of students causing so much mayhem in demonstrations on student fees.
Surely an increase in fees (moderate would be my request) are necessary. I see students misbehaving and creating problems which are not necessary.
I had to leave school in 1932 and had to find employment at 14-years-old. Since then I have had one week unemployment in my life, nearly six years in the forces (1939-46) and now at 91 I have my wife in a care home costing £1700 for four weeks (my contribution).
My wife was in the nursing services from 1940-1990 both military hospital and Evesham hospital ending as district nursing services. I would love to be a student and would swap them for my lot, loneliness and having to cook, clean and I wash for myself. I see someone who has been my companion for 65 years reduced to the mentality of an infant remembering no one.
Give me a students’ lot any day.
Mr Spiers, Pershore.
