Evesham II 1, Telford II 0
EVESHAM started to fulfil their early season promise with an excellent win against promotion contenders Telford.
Evesham started shakily when Telford's youthful and skilful forward line created a number of scoring opportunities.
However, a series of excellent saves by keeper Paul Knibbs, some weak finishing and two clearances off the line by Ben Brown, helped Evesham survive the onslaught.
As the defence organised themselves and established a better platform, the home team's creative midfield started to get Evesham back into the game.
Despite a series of short corners at the close of the first half, the match remained goalless at the interval.
The second half started with Evesham on the offensive, with midfield trio of Vickery, man of the match Martin and Boyce working tirelessly to shut out Telford's creative players.
Ten minutes into the half a short corner found Mabbutt who slipped the ball to Martin who forced the ball into the net.
This spurred Evesham on and continued attacking wasn't rewarded with an increased scoreline. Brown and Millar created openings on both flanks and chances fell to Mabbutt, Mark Brown and Bearcroft but none were able to capitalise.
The experienced defensive line of Hardy, Hemming and Russell ensured that the points remained with the home side in the face of some late pressure.
