HEAVY rain forced the cancellation of last Saturday's annual Head of the River on the Avon.
Organisers at Evesham Rowing Club made the decision last Wednesday evening in the interests of safety. "We had a meeting and decided to call off the event because we felt the river was dangerous," club chairman John Lomas recalled.
"It's been an administrative nightmare and the cancellation has cost the club a lot of money but we had no alternative. "Monday night's rain was the problem and the decision was really made for us."
