THERE was a short delay after 79 minutes when a stretcher was needed to take off an injured visiting player leaving Hitchin to play out the game with only ten men.
Robert Ager replaced Joe Clarke after 84 minutes as the home side tried to conjure up at least one second half chance.
The substitute then teamed up well with Danny Lennon who saw his goalbound strike blocked by a defender.
Ager was then fouled from behind in the first minute of stoppage-time when Town skipper Derwayne Stupple picked up a caution.
Nathan Vaughan made a vital clean catch from a 93rd minute corner as Town threatened an equaliser but it was Mark Hands who almost grabbed the fourth goal but his shot was turned for a corner by Martin Bennett.
The Robins hung on for five minutes of added time to earn three more points although they did it the hard way.
