Rugby Town 0, Evesham Utd 1
DANNY Scheppel netted for the second successive match after his penalty miss at Torquay to ensure Evesham earned reward for their first half superiority at Butlin Road.
The midfielder produced a slide-rule finish after 22 minutes after great play from Gary Hay.
It was no more than the Robins deserved after putting together their best half-an-hour of the season so far.
However, they know that a second goal is vital and they will be aware that Town had two strikes at goal late on as Paul West's men took their foot off the gas.
Joe Clarke and Mark Hands both fired in early shots, while Hands, Mark Owen and Steve Luckett all saw headers fly wide of the Rugby goal.
Adam Stevens clutched another Scheppel effort out of the air and then superbly turned Michael Hayden's curler for a corner.
The home goalkeeper again denied Hayden before the impressive Hay limped off to be replaced by Troy Wood who produced an almost instant cross that Hands glanced wide of the home net.
Nathan Vaughan easily saved efforts from David Kolodynski, while Scott Musgrove shot wide as a one-sided half drew to a close.
