School pupils have raised their concerns over a lack of things for teenagers to do in Evesham, the lighting in Pershore's parks, and the main shopping areas in Evesham directly to the area's decision makers.
As part of Wychavon’s Local Democracy Day, pupils from Vale of Evesham School, Droitwich Spa High, Prince Henry’s High, Pershore High, and The De Montfort School were invited to compile a petition to the council on a topic of concern, which they then presented in the council chamber.
The pupils also called for more colourful bins, raised issues with reporting issues with bins, and called for accessible equipment across the district’s parks.
A panel of judges, including council leader councillor Chris Day, considered the merits of the presentations and awarded the top prize jointly to Pershore High School and Evesham Vale.
Wychavon has responded to all the petitions, outlining actions they will take, including reviewing the reporting process for bin issues.
This is the third time Wychavon has held its Local Democracy Day, which raises awareness of the council’s work, the decision-making process, and the importance of voting.
One of the students from The De Montfort School said the day was "an experience of a lifetime".
Pupils also took part in a speed chat session with councillors, grilling them for three minutes on various topics they considered important.
A vote for the councillor the pupils thought had answered their questions the best saw councillor Rob Adams top the poll for the third year.
