WITH a black and white exterior this pub looks a little out of place in the centre of Evesham, but if you take a look through the curtains this 'hidden gem' might surprise you.

The Trumpet Inn in Evesham is as traditional as it gets according to staff but what really gives it the edge is its 'hidden gem beer garden', a ghost and an albino hedgehog.

Whilst relatively small inside, the pub offers a traditional atmosphere complete with food cooked by the resident landlord and chef Leslie Collins who took over the pub in 2017.

The pub is one of a very small number of pubs if not the only one in Worcestershire to be owned by Hook Norton Brewery, and dates back to at least 1685.

Jade Hancock, one of the bar staff at The Trumpet Inn, said: "Since Lesley joined it's been going really, really well.

"I think we are one of the oldest pubs in Evesham and we have won a number of awards including Shakespeare's pub of the year and best newcomer.

"We run a two-room set up with the dining area and the bar area but we do also have sort of a hidden gem beer garden that quite a lot of visitors are surprised by.

"I think we are best described as a village pub in a town centre."

The Trumpet Inn serves a traditional menu serving most of the pub classics you might expect from your local watering hole. They can serve as many as 30 people at one moment.

Miss Hancock recommended the steak and ale pie as her favourite dish on the menu.

The pub shows football and has a big external TV screen in the smoking shelter for the big games.

Miss Hancock continued: "We do have a cellar but in the summer the beer garden is the big hit.

"We even use some of the pears from the pear tree in our dishes.

"I think our most unusual guest has to be an albino hedgehog we saw once but we didn't give it a name.

"I haven't seen any ghosts but I quite often feel a cool breeze and hear footsteps but nobody is there. One of our regulars is convinced that we have one, although I'm sure it's friendly."

The three most popular drinks according to staff are Old Hooky, Carling and Henry Weston.
