A WOMAN was rescued from a river and taken to hospital following an emergency incident in Evesham.

Police, the fire and rescue service and the ambulance service attended the incident in Corporation Meadow in the town in the early hours of this morning (Friday).

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “We were called to Corporation Meadow at around 5.30am today to reports of a concern for safety.

"A woman was located and taken to hospital for further treatment.”

A spokesperson for the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said the incident was attended by two crews – one each from Evesham and Pershore, including water first responders – plus the boat crews from Worcester and Evesham and the service drone from Ledbury.

The 999 call was received at 5.34am 'to a rescue from water at Abbey Bridge, Evesham'.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "A woman in her 30s was rescued using a throw line and handed over to the care of the ambulance service who attended along with police. The incident was marked as pending closure at 6.35am."

A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a concern for welfare, on Abbey Bridge, Evesham at 5.41am and sent an ambulance and a paramedic officer to the scene. Upon arrival crews found a woman who, once brought to safety, was assessed and conveyed to Worcestershire Royal Hospital."
