A former Doctor Who assistant has joined Pershore Wellbeing Hub as a volunteer.

Wendy Padbury, who played the assistant to Patrick Troughton's Doctor in the late 60s, has taken up the role at the support centre.

Hub trustee and volunteer Ian Birth expressed his delight at her addition to the team.

He said: "We were a little worried that the Hub would appear to be on the small side for her after life in the TARDIS but she seems to be coping superbly.

He added: “Wendy possesses many of the qualities that we are looking for in our volunteers the most important of which are empathy and a willingness to listen.”

Padbury, who starred in the sci-fi series as Zoe Heriot, said: "I welcome the opportunity to work with such a committed group of people, and am looking forward to the varied and sometimes challenging range of situations that Hub volunteers can meet."

She is currently undergoing her induction before becoming a full member of the team.

Fans of the show, autograph hunters, and those interested in volunteering can meet Padbury at the hub.

The Wellbeing Hub, located at 4 High Street, is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 1pm, and 1pm to 4pm on Thursdays.
